Hi Marc: We are one of the few Meditech facilities that I know of that uses
Meditech for outpatient dispensing on a large scale. WE have done so for 10
years and we only have made it work because we haven't have to do any
adjudication or 3rd party billing. However, with Medicare and our own insurance
changes we have had to do some reality thinking here and are going to be
getting a real outpatient system such as QS1. Doing outpatient RX's on Meditech
is
very cumbersome and very time consuming. I would dare to say that each of our
outpatient clinic pharmacies is utilizing about twice the staff as would need
to be used if we had a real outpatient system. There are drawbacks. The
prescriptions done on the outpatient system will not be seen in the Pharmacy
Meditech profile. I believe that somehow an interface might be created to bring
them into view in PCI. We are apparently going to be using Meditech's AOM
module. We are using RXM in the EDM right now. These "written" prescriptions
will somehow appear in PCI. AS it so happens, about 1/2 of our clients get
their RX's filled at outside pharmacies and so their "filled" RX's don't appear
in PCI anyway. The record of what was written is probably a better thing to
have.
A new and more efficient outpatient system will also help to bring some of
those patients who go to outside pharmacies back to the clinic pharmacies where
our costs can be somewhat contained. IN order to do that we need to reduce our
"wait time" which we cannot do with our present system.
Unless you are only doing a few discharge RX's or a few
employee RX's a day, I do not recommend that you use Meditech for outpatient
dispensing.

Hello,
We are currently in the process of implementing the Meditech system throughout
our 380+ bed hospital (one facility)..
In addition to servicing inpatient needs, we also have many retirees/volunteers
that we fill outpatient prescriptions for, using the QS/1 service. We want
to completely get away from using QS/1 and use only Meditech for our outpatient
needs. We do not do any 3rd party billing.
My question is: What is the most efficient way in Meditech to go about doing
this? Can any of you L-ers shed some light or point in the right direction?
Thank you all.
Regards,
Marc
