Lisa,
When the coders enter the charges in OE, do they wait until the next day to
code the records in ABS?
thanks,
Valerie

Hi,

We have some coders here entering charges via the Order Entry
Application when they are coding in ABS. The charges will get sent to
Bar the next day, then they will pass over to ABS, viewable on the CPT
screen under the section Charge Master CPTs.

It would be optimal to enter charges in ABS then get sent to Bar, but as
far as I know Meditech is not set up that way.

Currently we have a charge reviewer that verifies documentation and
compares it to charges entered by ED staff to ensure correct assignment
of Emergency Dept charges. With this, we are considering the
possibility of the Coder staff actually entering the level of service
charge procedure, along with other services provided such as infusions.
It would be optimal to perform this function via the ABS module, since
this is where the coders perform all other coding functions.

Are Coders at any other facilities entering charges? If so, what module
are they using and do you have some type of interface between ABS and
BAR to enter the charges?

Thank you,
