Doesn't Epic use Cache?

They are the latest buzzword in the HCIS industry.

Joel:

We were there. We thought it was a great idea. We started
rebuilding our whole infrastructure to accommodate the great
"client/server" fad of the 1990s.

Then we found out what C/S really turned out to be and bought
the Data Repository instead.

Our infrastructure changes were for the better anyway. We got the
reporting functionality we wanted. We continue to be impressed by
the robustness of the Magic OS. The last downtime we had due to
software failure was the Termserver date bug. I believe that was
in 1993. Twelve years of 24/7 uptime is a pretty good record.
I don't think OS/2 or NT can match that.

Of course the new fad is SaaS (software as a service). In its
purest form this model has all clients subscribing to a single
instance of the same software. I believe we abandoned this
model in 1985 when we dumped SMS for Meditech. It's always
interesting to see old defunct ideas re-marketed as cutting edge
conceptual break throughs. Cache's "post relational database"
is another amusing piece of marketing. When did MUMPS become
"post relational"? I'm sure it would surprise E.F. Codd.

Morning/Afternoon/Evening L:It really isn't as big an issue as you perceive
Barbra. The C/S flavorstill utilizes the MAGIC programming structure, and the
modules operatein more or less the same fashion.Anyone doing npr coding in C/S
can take a MAGIC npr, look at the source, and be able to do a 95-100% conversion
of that npr into C/S. Attributesoperate in much the same way. The biggest thing
are the field names andDPM names. There are quite a few naming differences in
the fields, butthe fields still hold the same data.Procedures would differ on
the absolute specifics, but the general flowwould remain consistent.Granted, in
a utopian L, subject lines would read "[C/S|MAGIC]:[NPR|Attribute|Procedure]

fellow L'er's,I have a hard time sometimes knowing if a message is a question
aboutC/S or Magic. Some are obvious, some are not. I would reply to
moreissues if it were clear which MT platform is being used when thequestion is
posted. I don't want to give instructions for "how to" inC/S if the facility
is Magic. Just an observation. There are probablyseveral people like me that
do not respond if they are unsure.BarbVisit us on the web at
