I am interested in how other sites are entering premixed IV's with multiple
ingredients. Specifically the product we are purchasing from a compounding
pharmacy is Fentanyl 3 mcg/ml in Bupivacaine 0.1 % 250 ml bag. To enter this
into the Meditech drug dictionary (and also the Pyxis formulary) so that the
Fentanyl strength appears I created a generic name of Bupivacaine 0.1 %
w/Fentanyl and the drug dictionary strength is listed as 3 mcg/ml, 250 ml.
Then an IV Set (or String) is created that has the bag as the additive and a
dummy drug of premixed IV bag as the carrier with no volume.

The problem the pharmacy has is that the bag from the compounding pharmacy
comes in as Fentanyl 3 mcg/ml with Bupivacaine 0.1 % 250 ml bag. The pharmacy
wants everything to look the same and I cannot come up with a way to enter this
into Meditech with Fentanyl first in the generic name.

Does anyone out their currently purchase a similar product. If so, how do you
enter this into the Meditech system?

Thanks for any help,
Melissa
