The problem that was asked dealt with the fact that if users are restricted by
location, after transferring a patient to another unit, they can no longer
access that patient to complete any documentation not yet completed. The
question that I was posing was that for sites who have enabled their users to
access the patient's record after transfer, whether by using Temporary Location
or whether using the new 5.5 parameter, are they not having a problem if a
different CDS is assigned to the intervention for the new location? Have they
found a workaround or have they simply avoided the problem like we did by not
assigning alternate CDS's for interventions based on location?

Kenny,
Restriction by location is not related to attaching CDS by location.

Hi Claudia,

I found this "New Parameter" interesting! When we built NUR, we didn't
define different CDS's for different locations because it would create
the problem that, for example, once a patient were transferred from the
Medical Unit to ICU, the "Physical Assessment" intervention would pull
the ICU Assessment instead of the one that the Medical Unit uses. So if
the Medical Unit RN needed to complete documentation after the patient
were transferred, she would be unable to access the appropriate CDS.

Is this still an issue if using the new parameter? Have you found a way
around this... or have you done like we did and simply built separate
interventions if different CDS's are used?

Thanks,
Kenny Whiteside

Hi Mark,
We also made the same change. We use the temporary location function in
OE
to give temporary access to the prior unit. It is available on the
admin
data screen or a separate routine that can be added to menus. The prior
unit calls ICU and requests they temp locate to their floor. When they
are
done with their documentation, the requestor is responsible for removing
the
temp location.

In 5.5 there is a new parameter Access Prev Pt Location ___ Hrs after
Xfer
that addresses this issue. See ADM 3748

We are a Magic 5.4 SR3 site.

We recently changed our MIS user dictionary page 3 for most inpatient
nursing staff to restrict by location of the machine. This has also
presented a problem for transfers to the ICU following a code or change
in condition. I have been tasked with finding out if there is any
workaround for documentation after a patient has transferred to another
location. Currently, the nurse from the prior unit has to go to ICU to
document on the patient once they have transferred over to ICU.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. We have no intentions of
changing the MIS dictionary setup back to not restricting by location.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has had to deal with this issue and if
you have anything in place that might help.

Thanks.
