Bill - The ASHP formulary service is continuing to
update the AHFS class numbers, changing some, adding some. I believe that there
is a parameter in Meditech where you can or or can not have the formulary
service update these. However, if you are like us, where I have created a lot of
my own generic names to differentiate percentage strengths, sizes,
concentrations, etc, then the formulary service will not update these. I
recently went through and updated all of these manually - took some time. With
5.5, Meditech uses FirstDataBank's allergen information to check all allergies
in the background based on NDC, but strangly, still uses the AHFS classification
to check duplicates, meaning that you'll still have to maintain the AHFS
classes.
If you noticed in my
previous postings, there are also serious problems with using FDB for checking
allergies and I won't be turning this on in live until FDB and Meditech have
addressed the problems.

Subject: RE: [MEDITECH-L] Magic 5.5 SR2
question
Charlie,
We just updated to Magic 5.5 in February, and also encountered
few pharmacy related questions.
However, either the Meditech update or First Data update we also
did in February added duplicate class
numbers to our files, such as Antihistamines 04:00 and
04:00.00
I went through the file manually, and inactivated all of the ones
that were only 4 digits long. Also, I got a list of
current AHFS class numbers and made corrections to our
file. I found that some classes had changed numbers
but the old numbers were still active.

Magic 5.5 SR2 question
We just went up on 3/19 - no major problems from a pharmacy
standpoint other than with the FirstDataBank allergens part which I refuse
to use until FDB and Meditech fix some serious problems. >From what I
understand, no one else has had any serious problems either. The downtime
was around 3 hours. Charlie Charles R. Downs Pharm.D. Washington
