We use for a lot! We have found the longer we are up the more stuff we add. Ex:we ask pt HR at time of giving beta-blocker, blood pressure, blood sugars, pain level. At first it was a pain to the nurses, because a patient could be on several of the same type of meds, but we would find some nurses giving the meds when they should of questioned. Yes someone would give a diabetic med when the bs were too low. The pop up screens provided a way to make the nurse think, wait that not right. Also the screens provided a way for everyone to see what the bs, or bp was at the time patient got med. All pop ups are seen on the yellow history screen of the drug. We then went a little further, and attach co-signature for pain meds, waste information- how much and who witnessed. We also have a pop up attach to diuretics to question if patient is a CHF patient, And did you educate him, to meet a core requirement. We have attach pop up to let nurse know they are handling a chemo tablet or possible tab with chemo properties, they might want to take the precautions. We have pop screens for certain drugs- ex; drug contains maltose, may cause false bs reading. You can fix pop up screen, to contain multiple questions, and if question one is answered no, then the other pop up screens do not come up. The above is just with CDS to use in nursing. You also can use cds- pop up screens in pharmacy for the pharmacist to see, to capture inf and recorded required documentation.
