we dont get a high volume of new patients, so it's managable for someone in our
med recds dept to review all new medical record numbers that were issued, to
see if they are legitimate (based on DOB, SS# checks). also, over the years,
our admit clerks have been trained to not be too trigger happy in creating new
unit numbers.

the problem we have that is more out of control started a few years ago when
meditech introduced the subscriber ID. at that time we were not diligent in
checking new subscribers, and after a few months, we ended up with a huge
number of duplicates. i'm wondering if anyone else ended up in this situation
and what they did to dig out of it. regards, ganesh seshadri, indiana regional
