Susan,
I don't have all the answers when it comes to Meditech's Acuity, but I
do at least know where to look, thanks to the kind people who answered
me. I will give you a brief rundown of what I was told.

There are two parts to setting up Meditech's Acuity system;
Interventions and Parameters.

INTERVENTIONS
Meditech's Acuity system is tied to the intervention. On each
intervention, on page two in the intervention dictionary, you will find
three prompts beside the word STANDARD. The labels for these prompts are
above; Acuity -Units- Retro & Prosp and then Min Nurse Type (skip Path
Cost). If you put your cursor in each of these prompts and press <SHIFT
F8> you can read the online documentation for each. I am still trying to
figure out the real difference between Retrospective and Prospective
units. As with CDSs, you can assign different acuity units for different
locations.
In addition to filling in these three prompts, each intervention must
have a frequency (direction). The free text (.) frequencies don't work.
They must be from the Directions dictionary and have a time tied to
them. I have been told that you can have frequencies such as "per
protocol", "continuous", etc. if you design them correctly.

NUR PARAMETERS
Page 1
Acuity Tracking- you will need to set Editing Cut-Off Date if not
already set.
Acuity Queries- You will need to make 4 new queries; Projected Units,
Projected Hours, Documented Units and Documented Hours. These queries
will hold the data and you will need to select which of these you want
to display in the two places that patient acuity displays-Process
Interventions (upper right corner below patient's Age/Sex) and Status
Board (if you design it in). It was suggested to me that Projected Hours
would be the best one to use.
Acuity Units- You will need to decide how many units you want in an
hour. It was suggested to use 60 so that each unit equals one minute of
time. You can set different locations to have different acuity units per
hour.

Report parameters. I could use more information on how to set these up.
I was told that to fully utilize the reports, you will need to use
staffing and scheduling in addition to acuity.

You can also find a tutorial on Meditech's website that was somewhat
helpful. I haven't found any Knowledge Base articles.

I would appreciate any one willing to add information to this. What
have I left out, what problems have you had, how did you solve them,
etc.

Sandy
