Chalk this one up to "if we knew then what we know now". If we could do it over, we would use numbers, not a combination of last name, first name. Since several of our doctors have had name changes, staff get confused by the mnemonics that no longer make sense. The N\ lookup by name would work, but the convention of first 3 letters of last name, first 2 of first name is far too ingrained. If we had used numbers, over time they would memorize the ones they use frequently and HAVE to use the N\ lookup for those that are not so familiar. Alternately, I would consider five digits of the first name with numbers added.
