I've had problems with this myself. We've changed a drugs units from grams to milligrams or from ml to mg/ml and it causes problems every time. Eventually, the problem resolves itself, but if you have any active orders, it does cause real problems. Sorry, but I don't know an easy answer

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Drug Dictionary - Changing Strengths

Hi All,

"When changing the strength of a medication in Meditech Live (this is a big no-no), the dose unit is applied to all medication orders past and present.  What was done to fix this problem?  The historical data has to be preserved, thus Meditech suggested changing the strength back to the original and creating a new med entry.

For example, Albuterol neb was originally 1 BOT in the strength field.  I updated this to reflect 2.5 mg/3 ml.  When entering medication order, the dose fields now reads 2.5 mg.  Looking at old orders, I noticed that the dose fields reads 1 mg, which is sub therapeutic and the 1 was from the 1 BOT prior to the strength field change.

Any solutions will be welcomed.

Thanks,

Ann
