Ken,

We had discussed handling this like you are but have not moved forward
with it.

Sanctioned doctors are handled here through our Medical Staff Office/HIM
Director. If the Medical Staff Office has a doctor that they need to
indicate as being sanctioned, then they send a request to our MIS
Dictionary Coordinator to set the doctor's "On-Staff" and/or "Admitting
Priveleges" to "N". If this needs to be done after-hours, they contact
our Help Desk, and the analyst on-call is paged to make the appropriate
modification to the provider dictionary. If the HIM Director is
initiating the sanction (unsigned records is usually the cause from
there), then she either makes the change herself or sends a request to
our MIS Dictionary Coordinator. Once the sanction has been cleared,
then the Dictionary Coordinator is requested to change the fields back
to "Y".

Modifying the settings seems to work well; however, it is still up to
the user to address the issue when they get the warning message during
registration when the doctor does not have admitting priveleges.

Is there anyone out there who is checking for Sanctioned doctors? If
so, how are you doing this? How is it working for you?

We have added a CDS to the provider dictionary and then reference that,
within the registration module, and if the provider is entered as the
attending physician, then a message pop-ups alerting the staff that the
doctor is sanctioned.

Would like to hear how others are handling this.

TIA,
Ken.
