Mike,

Donna is quite correct about setting up the printer if the doctor's office
is on your network.

If it isn't, you can still use the Telecom dictionaries to set up his fax
machine and either batch send all his patient's reports during the
off-hours, fax periodically during the day, or fax each result as soon as it
is verified in the Lab.

Two other reasonably low cost options would be to purchase NetAccess and/or
NetPrint from Interbit Data. If you only purchase NetAccess, this would
allow someone at the doctor's office to attach to your Meditech system via
the Internet and print their own reports. NetPrint would allow you to set up
Internet printing to this doctor's office.

If this doctor is a high volume user of the Lab, or perhaps just a
vociferous user, perhaps the doctor can assist your IT department in
"finding" the money for NetAccess and NetPrint by going to the
Administration. NetAccess has been a real God-send here for both
off-campus doctor access (office & home) as well as outside vendors and
off-site transcriptionists.

Hope this helps.

Mike,

In Lab you could create a scheduled report for him and consider using the
LAB Telecom dictionaries to set him up as a Site, define his printer there
(if it is a network printer) and automate the report printing that way.

Good Afternoon L'ers!
The chief of our Hospitalist group is looking for a way to have his
patient's lab results print automatically to his printer each day. He came
from another hospital which utilized Forward Advantage to do this for him.
We do NOT have Forward Advantage nor will we be getting it (or any other
solution associated with a cost) any time soon. Is there any way to
accomplish this directly through Meditech (either through the LAB
application or the Rounds report in PCI)? Does anybody have a custom report
so I don't have to re-invent the wheel? Any help with this will be
extremely appreciated! Thanks for always being a great resource! - Mike
