Since we went live with PACS and became filmless, it became apparent that the process we had in place for the ED physicians and the Radiologists needing to read and document that they have seen each other's reading of the ER exams is not working.

As I understand it there are two things that must occur:

1. If the ED physician reads a Rad image first, he must document his reading and then the Radiologist needs to state agree/disagree with the ED assessment.

2. If the Radiologist reads the image first, then the ED physician still needs to reconcile what he has prescribed with the Radiologist's reading and be able to document this reconciliation.

*  We no longer move a film jacket between ED and RAD, so the piece of paper that used to go between the two departments will not work.

*  If the Radiologist marks the Radiology Image in the PACS system as "Read", then the ED physician cannot enter a key image in the PACS system stating he has acknowledged the Radiologist's reading.

Can anyone share their process with me?

We have Meditech Magic RIS,  Cerner Firstnet in the ED, and Emageon PACS imaging system.
