This is from our wan/lan man! Access points that have the same channel as their neighbors will not allow clients to roam properly. Do you have rogue access points causing interference in your wireless network? What type of Cisco access points do you have? How many Aps do you have? We have about 60+ Cisco 1210 autonomous access points. We use channels 1,4,8, and 11. We also have Wireless Domain Services and the WLSE running. We have set up our wireless devices to allow for fast roaming. This cuts the authentication time down by 50% when roaming fro AP to AP. We are at the point where we need to upgrade since the WLSE only supports 60 APs on any one subnet. If you are upgrading to the Lightweight Access points from Cisco, then you need the WiSM which installs in the 6500 series switch. There is a WLSM for the 6500 switch, but they encourage you to upgrade to the WiSM. The WiSM supports up to 300 APs and can be clustered. The WLSM supports up to 600 Aps. Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: Deanna Ramirez Sent: Friday, May 26, 2006 8:36 AM To: Sim Prahlad Subject: FW: [MEDITECH-L] ? unreliable wireless connections Do you have any thoughts for them? Two ways around it that I know of. The way that we patched the problem was to connect them through Windows Terminal services. The connection is actually a Windows Session instead of a Meditech Session. The problem that we found was that the Cisco AP's negotiate occasionally between points. When they do there is a lapse in connectivity. It's not a lot, but it's enough to cause a Meditech session to drop. So this does take care of the problem. But this does create another problem in the fact that you can't tell exactly where the user is coming from. Of course, you can still audit users and tell who's in the system, but not from which wireless laptop it's coming from. The other solution that I've tested but not implemented is Meru Wireless. We put these AP's in our facility for a test run and they worked flawlessly. When we pulled them out after our demo period was up, nurses were not happy. We still haven't gotten them in here yet, but I'm hopeful to do so. I would suggest looking into these Meru Access Points. When I did an inquiry about it not long ago on the L, there were many Meditech hospitals doing the same thing. The meditech-l web site is MTUsers.com ====================================== i've been asked to post this by our operations group for suggestions: We are having problems with users losing their signal and being knocked out of Meditech while doing assessments. We have carts with Fuijitsu 4120 tablets and Cisco Aironet antennas. The user typically hangs in the middle of an assessment, but not consistently in the same place on the screen or the same physical location of the cart. The Meditech session is disconnected, but there is generally no problem connecting to Meditech immediately afterwards. We have checked to make sure the access points are in the correct place and they seem to be. thanks, ganesh seshadri, indiana regional. _______________________________________________ meditech-l mailing list [email protected] http://mtusers.com/mailman/listinfo/meditech-l -- CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE This eMail transmission (and/or the documents accompanying it) may contain confidential information belonging to the sender.
