Please see my answers below. We implemented PR in January and are working on
customized programming for the BO product. MR will be implemented within the
next 6-8 months, probably.

Hi Joni,
We've been with Valco for a couple years now. We have PR and Business
Office scanning.

1. As far as PCI and categories, one of our main reasons for scanning
was to capture the referral/order and import it to PCI. So we have
categorized all referrals into one category called Physician Referral.
All other documents scanned in ADM such as Photo ID, Ins Cards are in a
category called Registration.
[Julia Carter] In PCI, we started with a category for each form, but quickly
realized that was too broad, so we have one category: MRF (Medical Record
Forms). The admissions forms that go into PCI in MRF are orders, demographic
(face sheet), photo ID (and over-sized) and insurance card (and over-sized) as
well as any pre-cert or pre-auth documents that are presented. I think that as
long as you're consistent and let your users know where the forms are located,
you can use the categories in the way that makes most sense for your facility.
I also discovered that different Valco consultants have different ideas of what
works best.

2. We just started using the Visioneer XP300 as well as the XP200 and
they are working well for us. We've only been using them for about 2-3
months so I don't have any long term reliability experiences to give
you.
[Julia Carter] We started with the Visioneer Strobe XP200. They are okay, but
I wouldn't give them an A+ on reliability and durability. I bought 14 and had
3 not work right out of the box. The 200 doesn't duplex, so as we replace or
add, we'll go with the 300. We also have issues where the PC and the scanner
stop talking and nothing but a power-off/unplug scanner/power-on/reconnect
scanner will work. I haven't researched that enough to know if it's PC,
scanner, network or combo related.

3. I prefer to use the built in viewer that comes with Meditech(Magic).
It works pretty well and there's no additional install to do unlike if
you used Viewer. As far as I know the only way to get the built in
viewer with Meditech is to use version 3.26P or the 4.18P. This
Meditech viewer allows you to rotate, zoom and print.
[Julia Carter] For functionality, I prefer the Valco viewer, especially for
heavy users, but for occasional viewing, the Meditech viewer is perfectly
acceptable. I do agree that the additional install of the Valco viewer is
cumbersome when updates are done, etc. Having to touch each PC (we don't have
any 'roll out' software) when there's an update is a pain.

Julia

Hi,

We're in the process of getting ready to implement Valco's Paperless
Registration and Medical Records applications. A few questions for
anyone out there using Valco.

1. PCI--Any advice on how to set up categories, subcategories and form
id's. Best practice, lessons learned, etc.

2. Anyone using the xp300 small scanner and are they pretty reliable
for various types of scanning?

3. Viewer: For PCI-do you use the PCI viewer or the Valco viewer.
Pros/Cons?

Thanks,
Joni
