You can use rules, or utilize POM WBD - but where exactly are you thinking
of using this? You say "...if the RN inputs certain information..." but
would that be as Order Entry for informational purposes. As a Clinical
Pharmacist myself I would rather see an order entered in the PHA module with
an additional note to recalculate if body weight changes by x%. Then a rule
can be used in PHA order entry to calculate.

Best of luck - Kevin.

We have a question from our pharmacy director listed below and I was
wondering if any of you have something set up for this. We do own, but not
currently use RXM and POM (we use some of this) and also wonder if this
would do what she is requesting below.

Could we set up something in Meditech that would perform weight based dosing
calculations
if the RN inputs certain information?

I'm working on a weight based heparin dosing protocol. I would like
Meditech to calculate
ideal body weight (there's a formula) and determine if the patient's actual
body weight
exceeds ideal by more than 25%

If yes, calculate a heparin dosing weight and then calculate the dose based
on that
adjusted weight (units/kg)

If no, use actual body weight and calculate the dose based on actual body
weight.

What do you think?

This web site give an example of what I'd like it to do.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
