Hi Darla,

We are LIVE w/Picis OR Mgr and we are a Magic shop. We are very happy with the
product and the company. It does integrate w/Meditech very well. We had
assessed about 6 vendors and Picis came out on top for
features/functionality/integration. Patient Tracking was our biggest need and,
at the time, Meditech didn't have this feature.

However, there are some hidden costs to implementing a Non-Meditech solution.
Infrastructure: Supporting a client-server architecture is vastly different
than Magic. Downtimes for upgrades are longer due
to each client needing to be touched.
Condition of clients can greatly impact the performance of
the application.
As such, you need to take much more care in locking
the devices down. You
also need to be more aggressive in replacing aging clients.
 As the software
gets updated with new features, etc., the horsepower on the
desk needs to
keep up. All of these aren't as big of an issue with
Meditech apps.

Employees: In my opinion, a Non-Meditech product takes more FTEs to
support. The learning
curve for these apps is much steeper than it would be if it
were another Meditech
app. It's easy for a Meditech'er to learn a new app as the
conventions, user
dictionaries, report writers, (etc.) are the same across the
platform. It's not
as easy for someone who doesn't know Picis to provide
backup/emergency coverage.

Recruiting: If you think it's hard to find experienced Meditech
Analysts..... Try to find an
                experienced Picis Analyst.

Again, we're very happy with the product and the company. It is truly a
state-of-the-art integrated solution. I'd be happy to entertain any questions
that you have.

We are in the process of selecting an OR application for the hospital. We
have narrowed the choices to the Meditech ORM application and the Picis
system suite. (FYI: We are a Magic shop.) For those of you that picked
PICIS, why did you choose PICIS over Meditech? How well does it interface
with Meditech and what issues did you confront? And may we contact you?
Thank you in advance for the information.
