With 5.5SR2 EDM, there is an enhancement that providers can be prompted to sign themselves up if the patient has no provider or the user is not the current provider, whenever they go to enter orders or document.
Saves a lot of staff time in assigning doctors to patients.  So we do the generic one at time of reg and the first set of orders that are entered by the doc (because we do CPOE in ED) they assign themselves.  Works nice!!

We do use a generic MD when the patient first presents in ER/ADM for an ER Triage.  When the patient Departs from ED, or gets admitted, it is the ED clerks responsibility to correct the physician from the Generic to the real MD.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

The Emergency Department has multiple ED physicians working on certain shifts. They are not assigned to rooms, and see patients in all areas of the ED.

Orders in Order Entry are placed by the Triage Nurse using protocols approved by the ED Physicians. That nurse does not know which physician will see the patient. She simply uses one of the ED MD's on duty. The final x-ray report goes to the MD ordering the film--and this MD may not have seen the patient.

The question below is from our ED Chief:

" I am still trying to get x-rays assigned to the correct MD.  The problem occurs when a pt is sent to xray
from triage with an arbitrary MD assigned.   Other hospitals that have multiple MDs on must have the same problem.

How do they handle it?"

Thank you in advance for all reply's.
