Currently, we have
approx 90 computers on wheels (COWs) from Stinger Medical - mostly being used in
Nursing for bedside documentation and bedside medication
administration.
Our COWs are
configured with a Wyse thin client (XPe based), a 15" flat panel monitor, and
tethered (via USB) bar code scanner. The batteries used in the power systems on
these units are sealed lead acid batteries - and it appears, we're only getting
4-6 months out of these batteries before they need to be replaced - they
cost $65-75 each.
For those of you
with COWs, what manufacturer are you using? What hardware is on your COWs -
notebooks, thin clients, desktops, etc? What kind of batteries are you using and
what has your experience been with their durability and life? Are you satisfied
with your COWs or what issues are you facing?
I thank you all in
advance for your responses and feedback!
