I believe what you would need to do is in test dictionary create a profile
test. For the department specify "OTH" (it means department without prefix).
Don't include anything in the barcode field and container field.
For each of the components you would need to change the 'count' field (listed
after the container) for the same container type so it would add up to less
that 1. For the other container do the same thing. For example: Test1 -
container RED, Count 0.3
Test2 - container RED, Count 0.3
Test3 - container RED, Count 0.3
Test4 - container GRAY, Count 0.5

This way when the Neurology Panel is ordered, a separate label with different
specimen number will be printed for containers with same type and Lactic Acid
(GRAY) will have its own label with different specimen number.

I hope this will help.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] different specimen # for a test within a panel

Does anyone know if there's a way to create a separate specimen number for a
test within a panel.  We have lactic acid as part of our Neurology panel and
since the panel gets one specimen number - and barcode number - the instrument
will run whatever sample you put on.  Since Lactic acid is collected in a gray
top we need a way to tell the instrument to run it separately instead of
running the entire panel when put on the instrument.  We thought giving lactic
acid a different department than the Neuro panel would cause 2 specimen numbers
but it does not.  We only get the one for the panel.   We are CS 5.3.

Thanks,
Deirdre
