We are in the process of switching over from Pyxis to Omnicell. Our two main
issues are faxing and the med stations drawers.

The faxing software that Pyxis offers is very expensive for what it offers. We
looked at it a few years ago and were very disappointed. I found out a few
months ago that the Pyxis faxing software was actually purchased that from
another vendor.

The other issue that we have is that the medication cart drawers are always
sticking. We change them out on a regular bases but their a constant headache
for the nurses and the pharmacy. I'm in the IS department and when the
pharmacy first started talking about switching over from Pyxis to Omnicell I
cringed at the idea. But after seeing the system in action I was very
impressed and am very supportive of the move.

One nice thing about switching from Pyxis to Omnicell is that they both systems
use the same interface HL7 format so Meditech has blessed the project with no
interface costs. Omnicell will use the same Pyxis bi-directional interface
feeds. One more time, no interface cost!

We have signed out contract and will begin the faxing portion OmniLinkRX in
September of this year and next year begin bringing in the new carts early next
year.

Hi,
We're seriously considering switching from Pyxis to Omnicell prior to starting
BMV. I would appreciate any words of wisdom. I'd like to know the good, the
bad, and the ugly.
Thanks, Valerie
