Paul, We are currently Magic 5.5 SR1 and successfully implemented the Sysmex UF-50 a couple of years ago although we connect through Cisco routers.
One thing that we had to change was to change the control signal CTS to OFF in the Service Area of the analyzer. You may want to check with the vendor’s Tech Services (800-379-7639).
Good luck! Brenda

I'm having Meditech work on this too, but thought I might get the answer faster here. We are working on setting up a Sysmex UF-50 urine analyzer connected to a Digi Portserver with RJ-45 connections. We're also Magic 5.4 SR3. Meditech's site indicates we should use the same 9-pin adapters on the instrument as for a UF-100 or our Sysmex hematology analyzers. We have been unsuccessful getting a device watch. To date, we have verified; 1) data comes through the instrument's 9-pin host connection - we dumped to a PC and can see the data. 2) a line test verifies the integrity of the line from the RF-45 connected to the adapter all the way back to the termserver. 3) the port on the Digi was verified as ok by switching a working interface to it. 4) Meditech adapter configuration, with or without the loopback jumpers, doesn't work. Neither does swapping the transmit & receive lines.
This leaves us with the conclusion Meditech's documentation is most likely incorrect. The difference between the hematology analyzers and the UF-50 is the hematology analyzers connect through a PC before connecting to the termserver. Because we are converting from Magic termservers to the new Digi's, we had tested all other Lab equipment interface connections to the Digi Portservers and had no issues that weren't easy to resolve. I also saw on the Meditech site the Dade Behring (formerly Sysmex) CA-1500 coagulation analyzer has exactly the same adapter and port settings as the UF-50.
I would really appreciate it if anyone successfully connecting either a Sysmex UF-50 or CA1500 to a Digi Portserver could supply us with a working pinout diagram for the instrument 9-pin adapter. Without a PC between the instrument and termserver, we suspect a different adapter configuration is needed. Thanks, Paul
