Just to clarify the terms... Cosignature required a second user to input
BOTH their mnemonic and PIN, where a CONFIRMATION asks the current user
to input another user's mnemonic ONLY. This is a policy and trust
issue. There are ways to track who has used your mnemonic. Prior to
eMAR, we had a policy to co-sign for insulin and chemo. We also cosign
for pediatric patients. Nursing leadership was asked if they wanted to
keep the policy the same, use a confirmation mnemonic only, or eliminate
this all together. They opted to continue the cosignature as before.
We are still working on a process for pediatrics. A CDS that checks the
pt age prior to med administration. We also use the cosig on entering
the eMAR only, not for each transaction in the eMAR.

We went with no E signature. We do co-sign for the student using our
user ID. We can't esign our documentation and it is thought that being
the one signed in is sufficient so we felt that it should be sufficient
for Medications as well.

Hi Sandie,
We are set up exactly the same way. We opted not to go with pin numbers
because we thought the password layer was enough.

Sandie,

We are setup with electronic signature. When the nurse tries to enter
the patient's MAR either via the Status Board or Process medications, it
asks for the password. That is the esignature - that's it, no further
thing to do. If a medication is administered, the documentation is
signed, if not, no signature, maybe an audit trail or something though.

Hello Brainiacs,

Need to see if you can't give me a little of your knowledge.

We are magic 5.5 and are just setting up eMARS in TEST.

I pose two questions:

    1. Electronic signature VS No Electronic Sig

    2. If Electronic signature is set then what are the pros and cons
to flagging for the Sig.

                                Entering a patients eMAR

                                               VS

                            Upon filing the documentation

Any advise you all have would be great. I appear to be flying in the
dark on this one.

Thanks for burning some cells for me. ~S
