Hi Burt - We began an implementation using the Clear Cube PC Blade
product with our McKesson PACS implementation. The design was focused
in our OR Rooms, to allow PCs with dual monitors, for PACS Viewing
capability in the rooms.

The specific benefit for the OR was having the capability to remove the
CPU (and other moving parts - fans) out of the room (infection control),
in addition to being able to support hardware related issues w/o having
to schedule downtime in the OR Rooms. And, the PC Blade architecture
(similar to Server Blades) allows you to automatically reprovision PC
blades, if one fails within the chassis; e.g. automatic or manual hot
swaps, redundancy, etc.

In addition, we had the option to deploy these units to our remote
Ortho-pods. We would either centralize the PC blades at our central
data center, or deploy them out in the network closet at the remote
facility. There are pros/cons to implementing either architecture.
But, imagine the need not to have to deploy a PC tech to resolve PC
related hardware problems (we have sites that are 11 - 15 miles away,
and we support 6 remote sites). The obvious dependency on this
architecture is that you have a reliable WAN connection to those remote
facilities, and they are secure...

With all of that being said, McKesson HMI (current version) does not
support a dual-display mode with the Clearcube PCs. They are promising
a fix in their next release of the HMI product - TBR in Jan. '07 (I
believe).

/Thanh
