Charlie
I have to disagree, I use the AHFS Codes for other purposes and would
like to retain them.
I often create a printed or on-line Formulary that sorts bu Drug Class
and I also always use the Drug Class as the Category in MM.PHA so that I
can create MM reports that match PHA reports by Crug Class

Richard - I've spoken to Meditech about this before and they were
supposed to add extra spaces to this field, but it didn't happen for
5.5. I believe that the bigger issue here is why does Meditech use AHFS
codes at all? With the new allergens dictionary (if they ever get it
working correctly), all we need the AHFS codes for is for duplicates,
and we all know that it doesn't work very well in that respect. All of
the formulary vendors have their own duplicate checking software which
could be used if Meditech would program for it. However, according to
the folks at FirstDataBank, Meditech refuses to do this. I believe it is
time that we all put pressure on Meditech to get rid of the AHFS codes
and use the formulary services for both allergy and duplicate checking -
that way there is no maintainence for us.
