Posting for a colleague: Has anyone who uses the 3M Coding/Reimbursement system interfaced into Meditech, purchased their Inpatient Pysch Grouper? If so, how did you handle data flow from meditech to 3M? Meditech's set up is to use the financial class to direct the patient's record to the proper grouper (ie: medicare, blue cross). Since psych patients could have any type of insurance, it will be difficult to set up a financial class that will default the records into the pysch grouper...... we'd have to first set up new corresponding ins plans just for pysch registrations with each assigned to a new pysch financial class. This would affect many areas including registration and patient accounts depts. On the other hand, we could set up all our current financial classes to NOT default to a specific 3M grouper, thus making the coders have to pick which grouper to use. They are balking at this. We realize that there will be some added issues for them and will definately add time to their coding, ! but this method will affect a limited group instead of larger groups throughout the hospital. We told them we would check to see how others have handled the set up. Thanks.
