Hi all, I was asked to send the responses I received for the question I submitted about acknowledging orders once CPOE is implemented. Here are the responses: 1 " That takes away the need for acknowledgement." 2 "We asked ourselves this just today, especially with the MAR, the ack orders is the acknowledgement that the nurse is aware of the order, our doctors are going to be placing the orders in POM." 3 "We acknowledge orders here via the status board since we went live with POM in April. The acknowledging just meeans they are aware the med was ordered. If the nurse has a question or disagrees with the order, they ask the physician to edit the order. For med orders they do not acknowledge it until the order is verified by the pharmacist." 4 "This probably isn't much help but currently, we only use CPOE and the eMAR in the context of the EDM module. These are all extremely simple one time orders. We feel that the acknowledge function in this limited setting is irrelevant and do not utilize it. Luckily, it is location specific because we definitely plan to require acknowledgement for pharmacy entered orders when the eMAR goes housewide soon. Once we cross the housewide CPOE bridge, I would still think we will require acknowledgement if for no other reason than as a tool for nurses to "check off" new orders. However, if there is a meaningful method for them to do this with med orders on the status board . . . . . I would be very interested. And then strongly consider axing the eMAR acknowledgement function. My concern would be that the nurse can't see the detail of the entered order via the status board and thus, the acknowledgement might be limited. I will check with our nurse implementation person to see how this works." I hope this helps others. We are still discussing it and are probably going to stop the "ack" from the status board and just acknowledge med orders on the eMAR. thanks for the information.
