How is everyone else handling billing for
wasted drugs?
We are looking for a solution between pharmacy module and bar so that
we
would not have to manually work every claim.
Any drug wasted from a single vial would have to be billed with a JW modifier showing
wastage.

Any drug wasted from a single vial would have to be billed with a JW modifier showing
wastage.
Example: Patient to receive 375mg of Remicaide, pharmacy module
has
remicaid at 100MG vial. Pharmacy would charge 4 units for 400mg vial, but 25mg
was wasted. B/AR has remicaide set with a multiplier of 10. Medicare pays
per every 10mg. The bill would print with 40 units (40 x 10 = 400), but must
show medicare 25 mg wasted drug on a separate claim line with modifier JW.
Drug administered would need to be 37.5 units and drug wasted would have to be 2.50 units.

We can
probably round up and bill 38 units for
drug administered and 2 units wasted.
