We have 2 issues at our facility in regards to Blood Bank Charges. I’m interested in hearing what other sites are doing to work around these.

 

1)       The date of the Issue/Transfusion charge is not captured as the Issue/Transfusion date but rather the date of the initial Type and Screen and/or XM. Currently, our staff is changing the date of service for the charge to accurately reflect the date of issue/transfusion.

2)       When we have 2 accounts for a patient within 72 hours and blood products are issued. The problem arises when a Type and Screen and/or XM is ordered on one account. Later a blood product is ordered on another account but we issue it against the same account that the Type and Screen and/or XM is ordered. The charges for the product then post to the first account and thus resulting in the wrong service date and time.

 

Some details about us…We keep 2 separate accounts for the ED visit and the Inpatient visit. Same holds true to an SDC visit and an Inpatient visit. This is due to contracts with some of our insurance carriers.
