Hello Kelly,

As part of your downtime procedure to may also want to look at how you are going to back up your EMAR for those downtime situations. The following is how HCA is handling downtimes. Please be aware that although the following talks about the EMAR, MPrint server can back up any files you may need to keep on a local hard drive. Please visit our website at www.interbitdata.com for information on MPrint Server as well out faxing and report distribution solutions,

HCA North Texas Division – eMAR and Unscheduled Downtime

The Challenge – How do we handle unscheduled downtime?

24-hour printed MAR could be so old it’s useless • Scheduling and downloading from Meditech a very manual process

Our Solution – MPrint from Interbit Data, Inc.

Schedule MAR to print 1 hour after each hospital’s med pass times • Using MPrint Server the Meditech printer port is defined as a remote printer.  MPrint Server listens on that port and stores the printed file in whatever PC or Server folder you define.

You may set up as many remote printers and MPrint Server folders you require to save reports.  Reports are saved in the native output format of the printer type you defined in Meditech.  Control characters, carriage returns, etc.

MPrint Server added a backup folder to the software for us at no additional charge.  It is now part of their standard.  The software will automatically move the last printed file to a backup folder before saving your current print file in the current folder.  That way we always have at least two versions available.

Printing the saved print files from your PC or Server:

Free PC Software called Free Raw Print • DOS commands

Capture additional unscheduled downtime events using MPrint: Server

Schedule Laboratory Cumulative Summary Reports • Schedule Future Orders • Schedule Nursing Documentation

Additional functions of MPrint Server:

Gives all Meditech Users the ability to print to a PC based printer • Execute an application to handle a captured print file • Play a .wav file to notify a user that a print job has been received.

Define multiple instances and rules in one program that runs as a service on Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP to simplify operations.

Define PCs as healthcare information system devices to enable printing to a hard drive without user intervention.

Define printers attached to PCs as healthcare information system devices to provide printer sharing with other users.

Supports unlimited number of socket and/or LPR printers to maximize your return on investment

Provides logs of print jobs to ensure all data is transferred to the appropriate locations.

Offers a simplified print routine to enable anybody to operate the product.

Distributes one report to multiple locations to reduce overhead and ensure consistency.
