Hi Rich,
Don't you mean there WILL be a new dictionary for hospital NPIs and a
new entry for provider NPIs? We are going to 5.5 in November, but still
do not have these new fields/dictionaries loaded in either TEST or LIVE.
Do you have access to them yet? We were advised via a Meditech web
seminar a couple of weeks ago that it would be done "soon". I'm just
curious in case we've missed something here.

Thanks,

Hi Kim,

I suggest you build a different Provider Type such as "Non-Credentialed"
and put the
docs in there. You may want them to appear "logically" with all your
other providers
since, when that patient comes back, Registration staff will need to
find them easily.
(Typically, they don't care whether the provider is credentialed or not
(unless the
patient is being admitted, or the doc wants to physically provide care
under your roof
with your stuff/staff)

The DTSs for NPIs (HIPAA mandated deadline is May 23, 2007) are still
being rolled out.
It will put NPIs on claims (in place of all other "legacy" numbers that
you now use.
There's a new Dictionary for the hospital's NPI(s), and a new field in
the Provider
Dictionary for you to enter all the doc's NPIs.

Good Luck,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. We may need to enter all
providers into the Provider dictionary as you say, perhaps with a
different mnemonic so they fall to a separate place in the lookup.
Until now we just submitted the non-credentialed MDs on paper with the
proper UPINs hand-collected from a website, but I hear Medicare is no
longer accepting paper claims. =20

What is the DTS that you mention supposed to do? To which module does
it belong? Thanks, Kim

Hi Kim,
As painful as it might be, add these non-credentialed MD's to the
provider Dictionary.
As you know, Generic UPIN OTH000 is no lomger acceptable for Medicare
claims so this=20
adds a burden, especially for New "unenrolled" MD's. But at least there
is a web site
you can query to get UPINs.
=20
Going forward, NPIs will replace UPINs and ALL other "Legacy IDs" on ALL
claims.
=20
We are testing the DTSs for this now. Still not sure if Medicare will
accept Tax ID=20
instead of NPI, but for sure it will be one of these with no generic
substitutes.
And, of course, CMS hasn't yet released their NPEES Dissemination policy
so we are=20
developing alternate tactics for getting the NPIs directly from the
Docs.

Historically, our hospital has only entered providers into the MIS
Provider Dictionary after they complete their credentialing process with
us. We are Magic 5.5 SR3 and use LSS. When a non-credentialed provider
sent us a Medicare patient, we submitted the claim on paper and wrote in
the UPIN. Now that Medicare requires electronic submission for all
claims, how have other facilities handled the submission of a claim for
a provider who is not in the Provider dictionary? The electronic claim
process pulls the UPIN from the Provider Dictionary and does not allow
other entries. TIA -
