Hi Anne, We have done limited testing of scanning ISBT 128 barcodes. Our ARC region is not expected to be shipping ISBT labeled units until August 2007 according to their most recent communication.
We were able to scan ISBT 128 using the enter units routine with no problem using a Datalogic Gryphon D100 scanner, which we currently use in BBK to scan the Codabar labels. It is my understanding that most of the newer barcode scanners can read ISBT 128 as a standard, but you may need to configure them for Codabar. I tried a newer scanner since we are currently evaluating scanners for nursing medication barcode scanning, and it also worked with both ISBT and Codabar. The model I tried was the Symbol DS6608. Our current plans do not include printing ISBT labels since we do not collect units. For the few products we modify (thawed ffp, pooled plts and cryo, red cell aliquots), we are planning to order labels from Shamrock. Would you mind forwarding to me or posting to the L any other responses that you receive. Thanks!
