I hope some one on the L can help me with this issue. We
have some staff at our institution that want to enter every Physician that sends
a patient to our facility in the provider dictionary. It does not matter if he
is on staff or not. It does not matter if her lives within a specified radius
of the hospital or not and it does not matter if we have all the data we need
to complete the dictionary or not. We are in a tourist area and we do have a
large number of out of area physician orders. I would like to know how other facilities handle entries to
the Provider Dictionary and if you have any restrictions. If you allow all
doctors in this dictionary, do you have a way to separate doctors on
staff and within a specified radius, from those that are most likely to send a
patient once every ten years? My big concern to many sound alike / look alike
physician names and mnemonics and thus errors in admitting doctor and ordering
dr etc. Also, what are the pro and cons of allowing every physician in
the Provider Dictionary? I have to report these findings at a meeting on Thursday
to the hospital risk manager. Thanks in advance for any information and assistance you can
provide with this issue. Melaine Saxon, RN Senior Analyst (843) 522-7901 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |
