The nurses and the corporate gurus say that it is a potential cause of error, and the nurses are not allowed to use FD for this purpose. The nursing directors/supervisors are supposed to take care of it. But I don't know if this plan is practical without a quick way for directors to know there are overdue doses sitting out there on EMARs. Thus the notion of a report. Sharon

Well, I’m not sure that it is a potential cause of error.  I believe they should be looking at it and using Full Document to get past that date/time.  But, regardless of which scheduled dose they document against, it shows appropriately if you print a regular looking MAR.  So, it almost seems that the scheduled date/time is an internal thing and once you print out the record you will not find issues.  But, this comes from just a cursory glance, not an in depth review!

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] EMAR NPR report: overdue doses

If a med dose is missed, it continues to show up in the "next dose due" column of the EMAR, even if it is several days old, thus preventing the ACTUAL "next dose due" from displaying in that column. This is a potential cause of error, but staff don't always notice it, or if they notice it, take action to get it resolved (in our facility, only supervisory personnel can clear this from the EMAR).

Has anyone developed an NPR report that will list all accounts that have a past due med populating the "next dose due" field? Boy, if I had this sitting on my printer every morning when I walked in, it would sure make life easier.
