We were having a problem with this as well so we
decided to have Meditech change our default look-up into this dictionary to
the Alt Look-up. All of our local physicians have all other info that
shows in the look-up. Phone #, Phys Group, admit Priv, On Staff, and so
forth. This has eliminated the problem.
Thank you, Indiana Orthopaedic
Hospital From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Melaine Saxon Sent: Monday, October 30, 2006 4:08 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Criteria for entering Physicians in the ProviderDictionary I hope some one on the L can help me
with this issue. We have some staff at our institution that want to enter every
Physician that sends a patient to our facility in the provider dictionary. It
does not matter if he is on staff or not. It does not matter if her lives within
a specified radius of the hospital or not and it does not matter if we have all
the data we need to complete the dictionary or not. We are in a tourist area and
we do have a large number of out of area physician
orders. I would like to know how other
facilities handle entries to the Provider Dictionary and if you have any
restrictions. If you allow all doctors in this dictionary, do you have a way to
separate doctors on staff and within a specified radius, from those that
are most likely to send a patient once every ten years? My big concern to many
sound alike / look alike physician names and mnemonics and thus errors in
admitting doctor and ordering dr etc. Also, what are the pro and cons of
allowing every physician in the Provider Dictionary? I have to report these
findings at a meeting on Thursday to the hospital risk
manager. Thanks in advance for any
information and assistance you can provide with this
issue. Melaine Saxon,
