Hi all,
We have come to the plan of either Wed or Thur as these are days that are
typical days off for physicians and their practices. We usually shoot for
0900-0915 to allow for the bulk of the fasting lab work patients to be
processed, the morning lab draws to be run, the physicians to round and orders
to be updated, day surgery patients to be checked in, etc. This also allows
pharmacy to get the first cart fill to be run and any orders from the overnight
to be processed.

As this has become the "norm", staff are getting used to the process.

That is not to say that we don't get the forceful complaints from some
physicians that this should be done in the middle of the night (of course the
Hospitalists and ED docs will tell you that is the worst time for them as
primary physicians are not available to fill in the blanks when the system is
not available...)

Never a good time but we do the best we can. At least with an update we can
plan, it is those unexpected downs that are much worse :-)

Have a good weekend.
Teri

Abraham Lincoln said it best, "You can please some of the people all of
the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all
of the people all of the time".

In my experience you won't be able to find a time that will please
everyone. What we have done is try to find a time (without paying
Meditech extra) that has the least impact on our patients. The middle
of the night might be better for Diagnostic Imaging but not for Nursing,
ED or Lab who are short staffed at night.

Good luck with this one, you'll need it!
