We changed all of the items in our Omnicell to a "NON BILLABLE" status. This
was the easiest to accomplish, and it works fine, no double billing. You don't
have to worry about interfaces and that stuff. A word of caution, if an item is
dispensed from the affected Omnicell for a patient on a unit not normally
serviced by that Omnicell, the patient will have to be manually charged because
the Omni will not charge any longer.

There is no reason that their HL7 engine that makes the messages for
transmission back to Meditech can't block the duplicate ones generated.
Their competitor's product won't do this. Talk to a different interface
engineer if they give you grief. HTH.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] BMV and Omnicell

We just went LIVE with BMV in three areas of our facility and are
charging at administration. We have discovered duplicate billing in
these areas because Omnicell is also charging upon dispense. Has anyone
else encountered this and hopefully found a solution? Meditech PHA says
there's nothing they can do. NMI says they can do a custom. SureMed says
we have to either have all machines set to charge upon dispense or none.
We are Magic. Thanks for your thoughts... Debbie
