Clay: There may be better ways, but we handle this with a charge rule in
LIS. The following is a rule we have attached to the Potassium order (K).
Basically, it checks for various ways a potassium may have been done
earlier, and if it finds one, it sends a different charge code: one for a
potassium charge that has the -91 modifier hard-coded to the CPT code in the
B/AR procedure dictionary.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------
;Sends a different B/AR mnemonic if K done earlier today (repeat)
;
IF{[f lord lab today]("LYTE") [f lord use bill code]("43104918");
[f lord lab today]("BMP") [f lord use bill code]("43104918");
[f lord lab today]("K") [f lord use bill code]("43104918");
[f lord lab today]("CMP") [f lord use bill code]("43104918")};

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Modifier 91
Hello MEDITECH L users,
We are working on a process to apply the 91 modifier to all outpatient lab
tests that are repeated in one calendar day. I am unsure of the best
process to attach and capture this modifier for these tests. What process
are you currently utilizing to capture this modifier?
All feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
