Due to HIPPA, I would recommend that someone, possibly the triage nurse,
hits a question, may we inform your PCP of this visit. If answered "Y"
then the appropriate message gets sent.

toPCPwhen pt registered to the Emergency Room

Mike:

Just an FYI, we used to do this, but stopped due to HIPPA, the patient
may not want their PCP to know they are in the ER (drug overdose,
physical abuse,etc...)

But if you do want to do this, there are numerous ways to do it.

Do you use EDM? PWM or POM whatever the current initials are (do the
docs have the Desktop with Notifications).

1. OA MSG triggered by the answer to PCP, and when the PCP name is
entered (we capture this on our EDM Triage Assesment), you can default a
Y to the next question and it can send an OA MSG to his MOX MAIL or
OUTLOOK Mailbox, or you could set this up as a notification (not an OA
MSG).

2. Custom NPR report could be generated by query response and or as
apart of the Registration process (one of the adm.form forms assigned in
the ADM Customer Defined Parameters) and set up a default printer if his
printer is on your network, if not fax to him on print on prompt (you
would need to set up the fax recipients dictionary.

I am sure there are other methods, it just depends on what modules your
currently using and what method do you want to use to notify the PCP
(email, fax, place facesheet in his mailbox?)

Good Luck,

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Magic 5.5 sr2 Sending automatic notification to
PCPwhen pt registered to the Emergency Room

Happy New Year L'ers!!

Our patient flow committee is asking that we set up a process where we
can have the system (either through ADM or EDM) automatically send a
notification to the patient's primary care physician when they are
registered to the Emergency Room. I'm thinking this can be done via the
OA message function but I'm not sure how to make it automatic without
the registration clerks manually printing/faxing to the correct PCP.
Has anybody already accomplished this? Any help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks and happy new year!
