There is a medical necessity checking routine in Meditech that can be added to
a custom menu: MIS.CPT.REQ.icd.ck.view. The user has to input facility,
insurance, patient type, CPT Code and ICD9 Code to receive a status (this
routine gets its data from the medical necessity dictionaries in Meditech).
This is on all our ADM menus.

Our registration staff also uses the medical necessity web sites for checking
whenever possible.

A final check would be done in the clinical area through the OE medical
necessity checking.

Since you're doing the OE at the scheduling time, you've already passed the
point of checking, right? Maybe the routine above will help.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Meditech (Magic) Medical Necessity - Insurance
changes

How are other facilities handling this scenario: A Pre-Registration is
done
and the patients insurance is pulled from Demo Recall, and since we have
CWS, we also do order entry. Well, when the patient presents, we find
out
the insurance should have been updated to Medicare, so the
Pre-Registration
is updated and brought to Full-Registration. Now, the order that was
entered in CWS didn't require Medical Necessity at the time, but may
now,
since the insurance was updated.

How are you addressing these cases?
Did you contact Meditech? If so, what response did you receive?
Any work arounds?
Any thoughts?

TIA,
