Since we have been promoting the washable keyboards and mice, in early 06 we saw MT "freeze" in certain circumstances because of USB port issues on certain computers. Multiple visits and dozens of keyboard swaps later, no good answer was found from the autopsy of the peripherals, as the keyboard worked fine on newer and older desktops running XP and Linux. IN MT, the keyboard and mouse work fine after you switched USB ports, but having to restart the application. Once was usually enough. Problems were consistent only with certain HP small form factor PCs and WinTerm Citrix clients- all only USB connected. We have seen USB connect to WinTerms with the "no keyboard found" or "hanging" issue. Which did go away after the keyboard was re- connected in the same USB port. XP recognition appeared to be the issue. We are aware of issues on a batch of the early version of the Unotron 5100 and the Cherry Biometric USB in the above circumstances. Each manufacturer took back any "flaky" units, replacing them. No new problems since March 06. The technical crew at NETS believes the USB ports on the HP and WinTerm computers had a quality issue - their experience is with thousands of each model keyboard with dozens of different computer types with only those having issues.
