I sent this request out to the L last week in hopes of getting numerous responses for expansion of the Element Name field in the MIS Group Response Dictionary. I received a total of 6 responses.
I would like to have many more responses to help back up why we need this functionality when I submit this to Meditech. If you did not respond before, and you would like to see this field expanded to 50 characters, please e-mail me. The MIX request I submitted long ago is attached below, which basically describes expanding the Element Name field to 50 characters with the option of letting us define how long the element name space should be for the group response in case we do not want to use the whole 50 characters on the CDS. I believe that the more backup I have in asking for this functionality, the better chance we will have of actually getting it. Thanks so much for your time with this issue! Attention all L-ers: I submitted a MIX request last year to expand the Element Name field of the MIS Group Response dictionary to at least 50 characters if not more. Yesterday, I received the following response that closed the request: Karlon,John (MEDITECH) - Dec 19, 2006 - 1537 EST: No additional requests for an enhancement of this nature have been received, so this request is being declined, thank you Status changed from 'MIX Enhancement Under Review' to 'Complete'. I found another request on the same page submitted by another hospital asking for expansion in the Element Name field. I think that I have even found on the L where a lot of people wanted the Element Name field expanded and have asked for this capability. I am attaching the whole request to this e-mail...I am sure there are a lot of you out there that would like to see this expanded for similar reasons or for completely different reasons. If this is something you would like to see changed, please e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a description of why you would like to see this done. I plan to e-mail the responses to MEDITECH so that they can see how many people would like this functionality enhanced. Then, please either e-mail John Karlon at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or open a MIX Enhancement request of your own explaining why you would like to see the length of the Element Name increased. Again, I know that a lot of people would like to see this space increased for various reasons, so maybe if we bug MEDITECH enough, they will increase this field! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- MIX Enhancement: MIS #4533080 (Sep 29, 2005) Status: Complete (Dec 19, 2006) Description: Expand Element Name Space in Group Response Dictionary Customer Contact: Jay Gilmore (229-276-3173) Customer Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (MEDITECH/AMS Edits) MIX Master: John Karlon <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 781-774-5061 Last Edit: Dec 19, 2006 at 1538 EST MIX Product Enhancement Suggestion Submitted by: Jay Gilmore (Jay Gilmore) Phone Number: 229-276-3173 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Organization: Crisp Regional Hospital MEDITECH Technology Platform: MAGIC MEDITECH HCIS Application: MIS Crisp Regional Hospital: TEST System Version Release and Change Number: 5.4, change: 1526 LIVE System Version Release and Change Number: 5.4, change: 1526 Brief Description/Synopsis of Request: The space of the element name in the Group Response Dictionary should be increased in order to enter more characters. Suggestion Details: I am submitting this request, because there are group response entries with some of the element names still needing to be abbreviated. I figure that since the element code is like a mnemonic, which is suppose to be an abbreviation for its actual name, the space for the element name should be expanded further so that we do not have to abbreviate the name so much. I have group responses whose element names are abbreviated that should be viewed in plain English when choosing the response. It is easier to read. Proposed Solution: Expand the group response element name to accept 50 characters instead of 25. We could then decide the length of our element names just like we do for our element codes. Letting us decide the length of our element names up to 50 characters would help so that if we did not want to use all 50 characters in the element name, we could take that extra space off so that it does not clog up the picture of the CDS. For example, if I build a group response, and the longest element name I build happens to be 40 characters, then allow me to specify that the maximum length of the group response is 40 characters. Then I have 10 extra characters on a line that I could possibly use to attach another query onto the screen. System Impact: It enables our users to be able to read responses in plain English, whether it be in NUR, OE, ADM, or any other application that a CDS can be attached, instead of abbreviated responses due to the 25 character limit. I went to a class at MEDITECH recently, and I know that a few people from other hospitals as well as myself were complaining about the 25 character limit on the element names of group responses. It would be very beneficial for us to be able to have the extra characters for group responses when we need them. Karlon,John (MEDITECH) - Sep 29, 2005 - 1608 EDT: Hello Jay, your suggestion for system modifications has been received. An initial discussion and review will be performed. We will update you with a response as soon as possible. Status changed from 'Open' to 'MIX Enhancement Under Review'. Karlon,John (MEDITECH) - Feb 7, 2006 - 1107 EST: The following E-Mail was received from Jay: Hi John, I was checking up on the enhancement request I submitted in September, #4533080. I wanted to know if this issue has been discussed yet, and if so, are there any plans to move forward with this request? I knew that it had been awhile since I heard anything back from it, so I just wanted to check up on it. Thanks so much!
