Denise - Remember, allergens are only pharmacy in 5.5. Meditech says that in
5.6, one will have the option of everyone using allergens and the same
allergy database. I haven't actually seen this yet, so I'm just going on
what I was told. So, we are only using allergens in pharmacy instead of
generic, class, and ingredient. And, so far, Meditech has only done this for
FDB customers. Hope this answers your question.

Charlie,
Can you clarify your allergy set up? We have both fields available, the
nursing field is used as informational, and the pharmacy piece must be
hard
coded for order entry to happen.
Thanks,

Cecilia - I understand from Meditech that with 5.6 nursing will have the
options of entering allergies using the MIS allergens dictionary. I
believe
that this is better for everyone involved; why have 2 separate databases
especially when the one is free-text? Everyone needs to be working with
the
same database; if they aren't it becomes a safety issue. We actually had a
sentinel event with a patient receiving PCN and having an anaphylactic
reaction (the patient expired) because of all of the different databases
out
there). So, if you think about it from a safety standpoint, then using the
MIS allergens dictionary is the only way to go.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Nurses enter coded allergies?
Hi,
We are a Magic 5.5 site but this would apply to CS too. Is anyone
allowing their nurses to enter hard coded allergies into RXM or into
Pharmacy directly?
Currently we only allow our nurses to enter allergies in OE Admin Data
but we're wondering if we need to update our thinking.
Any answers are appreciataed!
