Hi, y'all,

When you do financial counseling or evaluation for assistance, etc., do
you get the necessary information for all programs at one time? I mean,
do you get check stubs for Indigent, SSI applications, Medicaid
applications, etc., all during one visit? Or do you wait for the patient
to be denied for SSI or Medicaid and then get verification for Indigent
or Hill Burton, for instance? We try to get the patient approved on
anything else before we qualify them for Indigent Care and our financial
counselors say they run into problems getting the patient to cooperate
(or the patient has already left the area - we have a high population of
migrant workers). One suggestion was to get ALL the necessary financial
information, check stubs, applications filled out, anything that's
required, when the patient first presents for help or is still in-house.
To me, that's reasonable, but since I don't complete the applications, I
don't know what's required for each program. It seems that some of the
patients don't want to go through the waiting process, case worker
interviews, etc., for some of the long-term programs; it's easier for
them to fulfill our Indigent Care requirements, so that's all they want
to do.

Does anybody else have these issues?

Thanks!

Julia
