We are beginning to evaluate scanners for BMV. I have collected several
messages off this list with recommended scanners, but have an additional
question. Very soon now, the Blood Bank will be coming out with ISBT 128 bar
codes on all blood products. The nurses will have to be scanning these
products and the patient arm bands. I would like to purchase BMV scanners
that will also do this job. If possible, there is no sense in having to have
two scanners on the nurses cart. Is there anybody out there using a scanner
that will read ISBT 128 AND ALSO do a good job for BMV? I realize most all
scanners read 128 code, but ISBT 128 is a concatenated code with an internal
clock that only allows a prescribed amount of time to elapse between the end
of one symbol and the beginning of another, thus insuring two Blood Bags are
not scanned in succession.
I would really appreciate any input
Thanks in advance for your time
