Better practice to link a program to a keyword and use the keyword in
the rule.

That way a rebuild is no threat to your code and you have full
programming flexibility inside the keyword (which calls your macro in
PHA.RX, typically).

In modules that don't allow custom keywords (e.g. LAB rules), we code a
warning message, "This macro needs to be restored - Contact Kevin
McConnell in the middle of the night"

Then we remove the warning with the macro editor, add our code, and also
save that code elsewhere (in another report).

A cute trick is to write the rule like this:

Warning message code here,

"%LAB.L.SPEC.zcus.is.your.report.here.M.macro.that.does.stuff(0)"

Then the fix after rebuild is just to comment the warning message and
take the quotes off the program call.

But, as I said, PHA custom keywords allow you to eliminate the
heartbreak of REBUILD RULES. Meditech likes to run that themselves in a
LIVE directory, sometimes w/o asking.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Notify when edit rule...

I have several rules that have been changed directly in
PHA.RX.zcus.rx.rule - if a user opens that rule in the PHA dictionary
and re-files, the changes I made in the macro are lost.

Has anyone added something in the macro to "notify" you if that occurs?
Anything close?

Kevin.
