ISBT128

Adin,

When you build your products in your product dictionary, you only enter
the first 5 characters. For example, AS-5 Red Blood Cell Leukocyte
Reduced will be assigned an ISBT code of E1234V00, E1234X00, and
E1234100. So in your product dictionary, you should build 1 product that
has the barcode E1234. The remaining part of the product code is
captured when scanned (or can be manually entered) in the "E/E Other?"
screen. The V, X, 1 are part of the donation types and the 00 is part of
the division code.

When you build your products, Meditech will allow you to enter the
entire ISBT unit number in the dictionary, but it will only evaluate the
first 5 characters. You should consider using the Product Group to aid
in substitution. HCA requested an enhancement which has been moved to
mainstream that allows individual products to have a product group
defined. The product group can then be used to define the substitutable
product group in the product dictionary and is also associated in the
blood type dictionary.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, I will be happy to
assist you....assuming I know the answer. :-)

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] BBK Product dictionary modifications for ISBT128

ARC Codabar to ISBT Product Code translation document lists about 1400
products for ISBT. As an example, the existing Codabar product #
04750, AS-5 Red Blood Cell Leukocyte Reduced has 16 products for ISBT.

How do you build the product dictionary so you can receive inventory and
dispense to an orderable product. Do you have one AS-5 Red Cell product
with 16 possible ISBT bar code numbers defined on page one of product
dictionary? Do you define 16 new products, one being orderable and the
other 15 are defined as substitute products?

Are there any AABB or FDA standards that tell what you need to do?

Thanks,

Adin
