forISBT128

Hi Adin,
We built all the products that we receive from our vendor or make here.
It came to about 320 products.

You don't need to build each donation type. For instance you don't need
a separate product for autologous, homologous, and directed AS-5 Red
Cells units even though they are listed separately on the spreadsheet.
(This will significantly cut down your list.) Meditech reads and
records the donation type from the product barcode. You enter the fist
5 digits of the product code in the dictionary. In addition to reading
and recording the donation type, Meditech will also read and record the
division information as well. If you need to manually enter a unit into
the Enter Units Routine you need to enter the type of donation and
division information at the appropriate prompt in the E/E Other? area.

We have one orderable product for each product type, for instance PRBC
is the orderable product. And then all of the packed red blood ISBT128
and Codabar products are substitutable products. (You won't find any
PRBCs in our inventory as this is not a REAL product.)

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Kris

ARC Codabar to ISBT Product Code translation document lists about 1400
products for ISBT. As an example, the existing Codabar product #
04750, AS-5 Red Blood Cell Leukocyte Reduced has 16 products for ISBT.

How do you build the product dictionary so you can receive inventory and
dispense to an orderable product. Do you have one AS-5 Red Cell product
with 16 possible ISBT bar code numbers defined on page one of product
dictionary? Do you define 16 new products, one being orderable and the
other 15 are defined as substitute products?

Are there any AABB or FDA standards that tell what you need to do?

Thanks,

Adin
