To address the collaboration features that you find lacking in MS
Project:
I wonder if Microsoft Sharepoint could be used to help with the
project. It allows for all relevant information to be stored at a
location that all can access.

Responses I received indicated the following software
Project Kick Start (in my research, they have different
pricing for non-profit organizations too)
MS project
Health Commander (I don't know where to find information
on
this one)
Array's Task+
Quickbase
I also looked at eProjects but their costs were way out of our ball
park.
I will forward any other information that I receive.

We tried using MS Project and found it cumbersome. We also tried to
create our own home grown tracking software, but we are now looking at
@Task as possible option. Would love to hear what others are using!
